The
Jedi Killer
by Cody Barnett
Explosions
rock the battlefield constantly. The earth becomes fissured and
sullied with debris. Armored hulls of the titans are split and cracked
as the mighty vessels of war pound ever onward towards the enemy.
Clones and droids alike are splattered with blood and grime; everything
the war hurls at them. Yet, just as they are trained to do, they
fight on - compellingly, continuously, boldly. It becomes a contest
of wills, with both sides prepared to fight to the death.
And
then through the fog comes a harrowing figure - tall, menacing and
skeletal-looking in design. Four long arms suddenly lash out with
brilliant blades of light and clones fall. Even Jedi cannot withstand
the might of this warlord. Bodies accumulate at his feet. General
Grievous, as he is now called, is unstoppable. With a ferocious
growl, the General surges through the lines of warriors.
This week
we introduce you to the tenth and final spoiler for the Fall
of the Republic (FOTR) dream card expansion set developed
by the Independent Development Committee (IDC) formed by
players concerned for the future of the game.

With
the release of Fall of the Republic, the great General Grievous
finally gets his debut. The strategist is even prominent enough
to get his very own promo card!
For
8 build, General Grievous (C) is a rock-solid unit. With a hefty
7 power and a decent 50 speed, the General will be pulverizing the
Jedi hard and fast. Since the Dark Side wins all ties for speed,
not many unstacked Characters will be able to attack before General
Grievous does. Should they get a punch in first, however, the General
can withstand it with his above-average 6 health. With the three
other versions, Grievous becomes a tempest to be reckoned with -
80 speed, 10 power, 9 health!
Though
not a Jedi himself, Grievous can be treated as one, making him viable
to wield the ever deadly Sith Lightsaber (or several). The cyborg
will be able to strike the Character arena with such a terrific
force that it would take four arms to do so! Ironically, this multiple-lightsaber
façade is an odd reminder of one of the General's other versions,
which reflects his taste for collecting lightsabers.
Should
some Characters fail to die during his initial assault, the General
does have backup. His defensive ability, "Pay 2 Force->
Deflect 1," will be able to not only keep Grievous alive to
fight another day, but it will also help pile the damage onto the
already weakened Characters.
One
of the best things about Grievous is his compatibility with his
other versions. Should he be able to take out Character, one version
of Grievous can help out in the Ground arena. Then, if needed, he
can conveniently hop back into the Character arena after the battle
wages in Ground.
Overall,
General Grievous won't disappoint. This version and the other three
are sure to add a certain depth to the game that all players stand
to benefit from. With the release of Fall of the Republic
within a week, players of the game had best be preparing spaces
in their decks for the new cards, as they are sure to deliver.
