Support in the Reserves
By Trent McCrow

The Battle for Endor is well under way and the Rebels are clearly losing. They are facing overwhelming odds and it is the fear of defeat that drives them engagement to engagement. The plan was to face an unshielded Death Star but instead they are faced against a power great enough to disintegrate Coruscant! As pilots perform evasive maneuvers while trying to get a shot off at the TIE Fighters chasing their comrades, the crews of the large Capitol Ships are working furiously, providing intelligence and guidance to the smaller craft in the fleet. For the Rebellion the support of the command crews of the larger vessels in the fleet is invaluable, providing the assistance that is keeping the fleet from total destruction. It is the men and women in reserves that provide the most help to the pilot’s survival. Men and women like General Crix Madine.

In the third Independent Development Committee (IDC) expansion, Battle of Endor, the fate of the galaxy is in your hands. The ultimate battle of good versus evil is about to begin. Far above, in the cold reaches of space, two Jedi fight to fulfill their destinies and one seeks to corrupt the galaxy with evil. After the delay in the Battle of Endor expansions release, we will be continuing the previews and this week I'll introduce you to the eleventh card from the Battle of Endor (BOE) dream card expansion set developed by the Independent Development Committee (IDC).

Crix Madine is one of my favorite rebels from the Star Wars universe. I especially love the role he plays in the expanded universe and I hope that one day the IDC will be able to explore that avenue of his character. But today I have the privilege, no, the honor, of introducing to you the first edition of Crix; General Crix Madine (A). This Rebel Officer, at an investment of five build counters, gives you a unit with 30 speed, 4 power and 5 health. Not a particularly strong unit but he will be able to get around some annoying Stealth units. But as with most supporting Characters his main strength comes in his ability.

His ability might look familiar to some of you and that is because it is similar to the ability found on Mace Windu (F) in Wizard’s ROTS expansion. But unlike Mace Windu (F), General Madine can provide the power boost to any of your Rebel units in any arena, and that is why the cost has been upped from 2 Force. This strange ability is an extreme risk on your part; by tapping Crix you might reveal a Mission, Location or Equipment card with a low build cost. This would provide your target Rebel with only a small power boost and then you would have to send that card to the discard pile. If the top card is a battle card you do get to keep it and place it in your hand.

At first look it looks like the support Crix provides from the Build Zone is quite useless, but what if you knew what card was on the top of your deck? You would know if it was worth the risk of using his ability. Well thankfully Wizard’s provided the answer in the same expansion they gave us this unique ability idea. C-3PO (I) lets you look at the top card of either your deck or your opponent’s deck, and then provide you the option to discard it if you like. This will allow you to have a better insight at how useful using General Crix Madine (A)’s ability will be and it will allow you to have a better idea on when to support your other Rebel units from the reserves (at least those in the Character arena).

Most battles are won by the soldiers that fight them and the Generals take the credit for them. But if it wasn’t for the support in the reserves the war would not be won. Join the IDC next week as we continue revealing some of the cards from the upcoming expansion Battle of Endor.
