"I do believe they think I am some
sort of god." - C-3PO
"Ewoks. Disgusting little creatures."
-C-3PO (Oops. I think that should be "jawas". Oh well.)
After Ewoks appeared in the Return
of the Jedi expansion, most did not appear in a deck ever again.
Until now. With the release of the Battle
of Endor expansion, the IDC realized that a huge portion of
the Return of the Jedi was not addressed in it's self-named
expansion. This expansion rectifies that oversight and more. Out
of this set, there is one unit that really shines for Ewoks and
it's not an Ewok.
C-3PO
(J) really helps you deploy the new units that appear in
the Battle
of Endor expansion. His ability allows you to deploy each Ewok
for 1 less build counter. With Bright
Tree Village, another new BOE card, all of your Ewoks now cost
two less build counters. And with one last addition, Lars
Homestead, all of your Ewoks that cost 5 or less build, can
now deploy for three less build counters!!! Let's take a look at
the deck and see how it all comes together.
The primary goal of this deck is to have your
build reducers out first and then deploy a swarm of Ewok furballs.
The first key this is C-3PO (J). As mentioned above, he allows
your Ewoks to be deployed for one less build counter. He must be
deployed during your Setup.
Next up is Chief Chirpa. His two versions
are primarily utility units in this deck. Version (A) gives you
+1 Build and +1 Force when tapped. Version (B) is great for drawing
an Ewok out of your deck, but also helps protect C-3PO by giving
all your Ewoks "Pay 0 Force -> Intercept".
An Ewok Scout Leader or two must be
deployed during your Setup as well. These units boost your Ewok's
speed and also give them Stun 1.
Ewok Warrior is not only a cheap unit
at two Build, but also gets +1 power for each other Ewok in any
arena!!!!! As this unit will usually be the first one attacked,
use your Vendetta on these units. Save this unit for deployment
during your first Build step. If your build engine is in place,
they will deploy for free.
Logray (A), being the medicine man he
his, gives each of your other Ewoks "Pay 1 -> Evade 1".
While he is esentially a utility unit for your Ewoks (and not necessary
for this deck to work), you will have enough Force built up with
this deck to use this ability over and over again. And, as a Reserves
unit, he can remove 1 damage counter from each of your units each
turn.
Last, but not least, is the Wokling.
As desribed in this weeks Card
Of The Week, the Wokling a a myriad of uses. He's cheap to deploy
and If you just use his base abilitty, will let you draw an Ewok
card out of your deck at the start of the Battle step. You can also
utilize Chief Chirpa (B)'s intercept with this unit.
The Ground units
in this deck have an assortment of uses. And all but one is an Ewok.
This will allow you to deploy them free or fairly cheap. During
your Setup, try to only deploy your four Build units. Because if
you have C-3PO (J), Lars Homestead and Bright Tree
Village out, all of your three Build or less Ewoks will deploy
for free.
Ewok Glider is included because it's
three Build (could deploy for free) and gains +3 power when attacking
Imperials.
Ewok Hunters not only has the advantage
of having Stealth, but gets Accuracy 2 against faster, tapped units
and would only cost two Build with the Build engine in place.
Ewok Spearmen not only have the advantage
of Accuracy 1, but have a high power and health, I orginally thought
about adding an Ewok
Spear or two as Equipment, but thought it was overkill.
Ewok Warriors are probably the best
Ewok unit in the Ground arena. With Bright Tree Village deployed
(or any other Ewok location), Ewok Warriors gets +10 Speed and Stun
2. And with your build engine in place, will only cost one Build
to deploy.
Last but not least, one of my favorite new
Ground units from the BOE expansion, Luke's Speeder Bike (A).
While he doesn't gain any bonuses from the Ewok side of things,
he does deploy for one less Build because of Lars Homestead. And
this unit (as stated in a previous deck article), is like a Han
Solo (I) for the Ground arena. After each attack, he has chance
to attack another units in the Ground arena.
The Space arena is
primarily a utility arena, helping to draw cards and gain Build.
But, there are also some units capable of attacking and holding
the arena for several turns.
The CR-90 Corvette, in my opinion, is
the new Jawa Sandcrawler for the Space arena. Tap it to draw two
cards and discard one Rebel card. You can discard an extra C-3PO
(J) or even one of the several Space unit Rebel subtypes. And, not
only does this unit have Shields 1, but will also deploy for one
less Build with Lars Homestead.
Kessel Runners are here to gain you
Build so you can deploy all your Ewoks.
Luke's X-wing's and Wedge's X-wing
(A) are here for obvious reasons.
And again, last but not least, another great
unit from BOE, the Rebel Gallofree Transport. The Card Development
for BOE really outdid themselves on this one. As you can see in
the image of the card, you get some incredible stats, Shields 1,
a great Bounty AND it will deploy for one less Build with Lars
Homestead.
Jedi Piloting
is pretty straight foward. Prevention is the name of the game there.
After some playtesting
using Jedi Piloting and Lost
in the Asteroids (in an effort to stall the Space arena), I
took out Lost in the Asteroids and replaced it with Vendetta.
This card would help me protect my Ewok characters and allow them
to get in a big hit, unprevented.
Bright Tree Village
and Lars Homestead are key to this deck (along with C-3PO
(J).) You must get all three out during your first Build step
in order for your Build engine to work.
Sanctuary Moon was also added after
some playtesting to combat primarily against the Endor
Imperial Fleet, but can be used for other Hidden Cost units
as well.
So let's take a look at how it all
sets up.
IDEAL
SETUP
(Assuming
a 30 build setup)
12 build
4 build
11 build
BUILD
ZONE AFTER SETUP
- 3 Build Points (Now, when you deploy Lars Homestead, Luke's
Speeder will deploy for free.)
HAND
AFTER SETUP (And Drawing 1 Card)
FIRST
BUILD STEP
(Assume a Build roll of 3 +1 for all three arena bonus
= 4 Build)
+2 Build for Kessel Runners
Total Build = 6 Build
- Play Lars Homestead for 2 Build (4 Build Left)
- Deploy Luke's Speeder Bike (A) for free (4 Build Left)
- Play Bright Tree Village for 2 Build (2 Build Left)
- Play Regroup on Yavin (1 Build Left + 3 Build = 4 Build
Left)
- Tap CR-90 (You draw-
discard C-3PO (J) and deploy Ewok Glider for free.
- Play Wedding of Destiny (2 Build Left, +1 Force)
You draw-
- Play Regroup on Yavin (1 Build Left + 3 Build = 4 Build
Left)
- Deploy Ewok Warrior for free (4 Build Left)
- Deploy Ewok Warrior for free (4 Build Left)
- Deploy Ewok Warriors for 1 Build (3 Build Left)
- Deploy Ewok Spearman for 1 Build (2 Build Left)
- Deploy Logray (A) for 2 Build (0 Build Left)
AFTER
FIRST BUILD STEP
All of your Ewoks now have at least Evade
1, +20 speed and Stun 2.
Each Ewok Warrior (in this particular
setup) has Evade 1, +20 speed, Stun 2 and +8 power!!!
Save your Vendetta (and Force) for one
of your Ewok Warrior's. They will be the first unit your
opponent attacks and then you can attack back with unpreventable
damage (+X power).
All these Ewoks haveat least Evade 1, +20 speed and Stun
2. The Ewok Warriors here have +30 speed and Stun 4.
Depending on the number of Space units your opponent
has in the Space arena) or if you deployed any Space units
during the Build step
So, that's about it. There are alot of variations
you could play with this deck. Less Characters. Different Battle
cards. Whatever you prefer. But the three main cards will need to
remain C-2PO (J), Lars Homestead and Bright Tree
Village. If you modify the deck, make sure you have those three,
a good draw engine and a strong Build engine as well.
I hope you enjoy this deck and this weeks COTW.
Let me know how you would do the deck differently. Just post a response
in the appropriate article topic. Until next time....
