Battle Report - The Coming Storm
Battle Report By: Trent McCrow

Pre-battle Thoughts:

Shaun's Commentary

"And as my first act this new authority, I will create a Grand Army of the Republic! To counter the increasing threats of the Separatist." - Chancellor Palpatine.

Ah, the moment I became Grand Admiral. Anyway, as usual this battle between Trent and I will be interesting. This deck I have prepared for this battle involves diplomats with clone officers in character led by Orn Free Taa and Padme H, and having only clone or republic units in ground and space.

It is my hope that I will finally be able to play Orn Free Taa in this game as I've never had the opportunity to use him before. My plan is to have either Orn and Clone Officers or Padme and Ani H in character with Jar Jar C or Finis as build draw. In ground I'll go for mainly clones with MAC for ion cannon. In space I want RATs and RASs with either Delta Sixes or V-Wings for escorts. I will mainly try to stall or disrupt with battle cards to draw the game out to give a chance.

I hope this will work out for the Republics - and my - gain. And as a future Mon Calamari admiral will say - "May the Force be with us!"

Trent's Commentary

I'm really looking forward to this battle with Shaun. I am so pumped about the soon coming release of CW:RAW that we decided to do a battle report of Separatists against the Republic. Shaun will be playing the ever fledging Republic while I will play the Dark side and attempt to use the Separatists machinations to my advantage and resist the Grand Army of the Republic!

I've gone with what I think is a pretty basic deck. I have Po Nudo and San Hill in the Character arena as my utility units to help the rest of the Separatist forces and I have surrounded them by an army of the best droids. I have also thrown Durge in there as he was an important part of the Battle of Muunilinst, which is what inspired me to build this particular deck. For the space arena I hope to be able to use my Droid Missiles alongside Homing Missiles Salvo to 'clear the skies', and I have included Commerce Guild Droid 81-X to provide some ground support. Patrol Mode Vulture Droid will be a stable unit in my Ground arena offensive with the fast Crab and Separatist Spider Droids in support.

I don't really have that much synergy in this deck as I feel that is really what the Separatists lacked in their war against the Grand Army of the Republic. So you'll be seeing the droids and their leaders hitting it out and hopefully the sheer power of the Separatist forces I have gathered will come through and achieve victory over Republic.

Shaun's Commentary

Damn, no Orn. Oh well, at least I've 2 Rats in space to assist with deploying ground units which I think I'll need. Those 2 Droid missiles and 81Xs are a threat to my Rats, so I'll deploy my RAS to divert attention. I'll task all of my ground units to take out those pesky 81Xs. Padme H is alone in character - I have Rapid Recovery but It'll only serve to keep her alive as the DSE with its 40 speed and Stun 3 would diminish her next attack - it seems I'll have to use DIIC to stall character. though I'll keep San Hill alive as he benefits my build gain.

Well I have half my plan in motion, it's up to fate to provide me with other half.

Trent's Commentary

I'm pretty worried how this game will go. Even after my mulligan I still only had Ground unit cards in my starting hand. I needed to draw Space if I am going to have the best chance of winning this game. I think the way things have panned out I still might be able to 'emerge victorious' but I am worried by both of Shaun's Republic Assault Transports and his inclusion of Padme. We agreed that they were going to be Republic only and Separatist only decks but I have the sneaky suspicion Shaun has gone with Diplomats in character, which my deck will not be able to stand against.

Shaun's Commentary

No! Trent took out my RAS before it could bombard - well it did divert his attention from my Rats and I now have space supremacy - and he used all his force so Padme can attack without fear of retaliation! Though it was difficult to choose whether to use DIIC on space or ground this turn or not.

My Platoon survived the ground battle! I'll gain an extra build point this turn! I'll use both Rats to 'revive' Delta, and deploy Jar Jar and tap both him and Padme to gain more resources as I intend to use DIIC this turn.

Trent's Commentary

Well I think turn one was a little disappointing. I was hoping my Homing Missile Salve would roll 4 hits so I could discard the Republic Assault Ship with only one of my Droid Missiles with the other one putting 3 damage counters on one of the Republic Assault Transports. I really have no problems with him using his RAT's to deploy into Ground as they will focus some of his resources away from the Character arena. I will continue to lay siege via all means necessary against the Space arena and I am hoping to draw some space cards soon!

Shaun's Commentary

It seems Trent has given up space - I'll use that to my advantage! Though he surprised me with his second HMS - I did not see that coming and that has left my space ready for a counterattack, though I'm hoping that's not the case. Sadly I lost ground but I did take out his 2nd 81X, but the annoying 3rd one will cause me grief in the next few turns if I don't silence it soon - I plan to stall in ground and focus my attention on character and getting Ani out to "wipe out. the other Separatist leaders."

Trent's Commentary

I was going to have a go in Character this turn but Shaun played DIIC so he forced my hand and I played another Homing Missiles Salvo in an attempt to once again 'clear the skies' and provide a safe deployment zone for my Space units (the ones I'm still waiting to draw!). Now that I control the Ground arena I fear Shaun will lose interest in contesting it and will move his attention to Character. And because of Shaun's battle trickery with DIIC I might of just lost my best chance to get rid of his diplomat synergy with Padme. Must fight on!

Shaun's Commentary

Sadly I lost a mighty RAT to a lowly 81X - though I still have space in my grip. Getting Ani out saved character for me as Trent focused his 2 DSEs on Ani who survived. Trent stalled character by have the DSE intercept each others attack - but one was discarded as I hoped. But I must thank San Hill as without him I wouldn't be able to deploy CFT to hope take out the 81X. I am wondering why Trent hasn't been using Po Nudo to keep his DSEs alive - though I don't mind it at all. I think this turn could shape whether this will be a short game or a long one.

Trent's Commentary

With the Introduction of Anakin this game is almost done and dusted. I still have the numerical supremacy so I will be able to survive this turn but will most likely lose all but one of my units unless I roll all hits when attacking Anakin. If I am to have any chance I will need a high build roll and draw a space unit or another Security escort as I won't have enough build to deploy Durge. I'm glad now Shaun only has one space unit left but that is the only shining light of my underground headquarters where hopefully I can hide and fight it out another turn.

Trent's post-battle Thoughts

Well once again Shaun has defeated me. I really should stop aligning myself with the side that loses all the historical battles in Star Wars! Shaun has come along way with his skill in the TCG and sometimes I wish he was still at his beginnings where he wouldn't use his battle cards or his Force and he would build lackluster decks with no real drawing power. But alas he has turned into the formidable competitor I always knew he had in him. Well done mate! Shaun expertly used his Rapid recovery to ensure he attained victory, which really shows how much he has matured in his skill at the SWTCG.

Once again we had a really fun time and were able to enjoy the thrill of the game as we recreated history through the battles that took place in the Star Wars universe. I am a little annoyed that Shaun employed a Diplomat strategy in Character instead of the Republic and Separatist strategy we agreed upon. But in the end I was outplayed and was defeated and nothing I can say or do will change the fact. Once again well done Shaun and I look forward to the next time we meet in battle after the release of Cone Wars: Republic At War!!

Shaun's post-battle Thoughts

"Ah ha! I am victorious! Now stand aside oh worthy adversary." - King Arthur from Monty Pythons Holy Grail.

My kamikaze CFT took out the 81X before it could deprive me of my superior build-reducing RAT! Ani did well to discard the remaining Separatist bulwark in character, the DSE. With impressive rolls with the lucky Jar Jar and powerful Padme ended the lives of their separatist diplomat counterparts.

I made the right decision to save my RR which I used on Jar Jar to use his experience with discarding battle droids on the remaining B1 droid. I have secured both space and character to win the game - though I couldn't have matched the Seps military hardware in ground due to the PMVD.

And so I make another stunning victory! I would first like to congratulate Trent for his excellent playing capability at keeping me on my toes, the Separatist for giving the republic something to shoot at, SWTCG for the game. Oh sorry - my mind was wandering into a MTV style (must have spent too much time with a certain green crazy frog and a sleepless chancellor.)

Well Enjoy this battle report and May the Force be with all - ner vode!
