Announcement: The Siege of Naboo
By
Trent McCrow
As most of you will of noticed
the Independent Development Committee (IDC) had set the date of
December 26, 2008 as the release date for our fifth Star Wars Trading
Card Game (SWTCG) expansion Invasion
of Naboo (ION). Unfortunately as you will have noticed this
date came and went without any hint of ION's release or any status
updates. I'm sure all of you have questions as to where ION is,
why it is not out and how much longer do we have to wait? The truth
is we dont know.
As the Vice-Chairperson of the Public Affairs
sub-committee within the IDC it is my job to fill the role of the
chairperson during any explained absence and I believe the situation
we are currently faced with fits the bill. That means I'm speaking
to you today as the acting Chairperson of the IDC's Public Affairs
department and in an official capacity.
So what can I tell you? Here we go.
The IDC as a whole has been working very hard since the release
of Clone
Wars: Republic at War way back in April and was spurred on by
the development ideas of some old and new friends reigniting the
passion, drive and commitment each member of the IDC has to bring
the community the best quality content. The IDC decided to implement
a new method of Card Creation and development that would ensure
regular milestones were met and morale would remain high which in
turn would have helped us release ION on time and as great an expansion
we could manage. Instead we got bogged down in procedures and due
to a few key members taking unexplained absences progress stalled.
There is nobody to blame for the IDC's inability to overcome this
hurdle as all the sub-committees have faced the same problems which
have combined to form the nightmare you are now evident of.
So what hope is there? I can reassure you that
production is still under way, but regretfully with a much smaller
team then we started, and the IDC is not abandoning production on
our fifth expansion ION and the 180 cards it will contain. Until
the IDC's board members have met with the IDC panel there is not
much more I can say. But just so you know how far along we are here
are a few numbers for you:
87 cards have been officially 100% [CLEARED]
for release with another 60 or so very close to obtaining [CLEARED]
status
51 cards have been completed with their card image and have either
been approved or are waiting the final tick.
So that leaves the IDC with about 30 cards
to work on (+ the 60 which are 95% complete) and 2/3rds of the ION
still need to be created into their digital card forms.
I hope that you will continue to be patient
as the IDC does its best to get back into the swing of things and
that you will be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor when ION
released some time in 2009. Also keep an eye out for more information
as we want to keep you as informed as possible. We love this game
we love this community and we love you and the support you provide.
Thank you for your continuing support of the SWTCG and the IDC.
We hope you all have had a wonderful festive season and wish you
well in the New Year.
Play. Love. Live!
