Where Art Meets Technology
By Trent McCrow

I recently visited a Star Wars exhibition at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum with my father as a little present for finishing my first year as a Communications student at Avondale College in Australia. The exhibit was called Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination and showcased how some of the technology from our favourite saga has been adopted and is being developed on earth today. We could build our own robot like R2-D2 or even build a magnetised landspeeder but what were most exciting were the original models and replicas of real star wars props. There was stormtrooper armour and the Jedi robes of Mace, Anakin and Obi-Wan as well as one of the Yoda puppets and the Iconic suit of Darth Vader himself. They were all very cool (and I was kicking myself for not sneaking a camera in) but what I thought was most cool were the models of the starships from Star Wars.

As you entered the exhibit you were immediately confronted with the giant hamburger, known to the galaxy as the Millennium Falcon. A few meters away were Luke’s iconic X-Wing and the Star Destroyer that left us in awe the first time we saw Star Wars. They all had blaster scoring on them and looked like the space junk George Lucas envisioned for his gritty universe. But what caught my father’s eye was the sleek styling of the Royal Naboo Starship. My dad has always liked the starships from Naboo and is especially fond of the one Zam Wessel destroyed in Attack of the Clones. “They just look so cool!” he says. They truly are a wondrous design. When it comes to the Naboo it isn’t where science meets imagination but instead for the Naboo it is where technology meets art.

So today I’m going to introduce you to two Naboo starships cards from our upcoming expansion Invasion of Naboo.

The first elegant starship we’re previewing today is the Royal N-1 Starfighter. This card is definitely an upgrade from the N-1 Starfighter card already available to us, but is obvious that the same design concepts have been carried through to the Royal N-1 Starfighter. With a high speed and relatively low power and health this feels like an N-1 Starfighter yet when a Naboo Diplomat is around that needs protecting, these elegant starships beef up to 3 power and 3 health! Unlike the standard N-1 Starfighter's the Royal N-1’s reflect the fact they are piloted by Naboo’s best pilots and hence have an inbuilt "Pay 1 Force --> Evade 1" ability. How much for this starship... this piece of art, I hear you say? Just 3 build! That’s one of the cheapest pieces of art you’ll ever get!

The second preview card I have for you today promotes the ideals of the Naboo faction, teamwork. Bravo One (A) has mastered not only the art of design, but the art of war also. For an investment of 4 build, Bravo One (A) provides you with a 60/3/3 killing machine with Accuracy 1 built in! But the benefits of this elegant piece of art do not end there. When combined with the rest of the gallery of artwork, Bravo One (A) will receive a power boost equal to the number of artworks in your gallery for a cost of only 1 Force. What makes this card balanced is its uniqueness, but imagination the combination if the rest of Bravo squadron were available!
