Diplomacy is Best Served Cold
By Brian Weeks

I love Diplomats. Of course, not in the "real" sense, but from the TCG perspective. The Diplomat subtype has become one of the most dominating subtypes in the game with the release of the Invasion of Naboo expansion.Intercept, Disrupt, Power, Force Gain, Build Gain...Diplomats can do it all. And, as I have stated in the past (over and over), the Diplomat deck can control the game. And of all the Diplomats, the best combo available to the Light Side player (IMO), is the Han/Leia combo.

The newest card that gives the Light Side player a chance to control and win the game is Chancellor Finis Valorum (A).

At 5/30/1/3, his stats aren't impressive, but his abilities are what makes him a great unit to include in your Diplomat deck. Though his first ability is a negative for the Light Side player, his second ability is what makes him playable. The chance to control the Character arena without having to even attack is tremendous. But...he does need protection. That's where Han Solo (G) comes in. Since his ability is not an Intercept (in the literal sense of the word), he can prevent all damage to Chancellor Finis Valorum (A) and place 2 damage counters on himself. Very cool! To protect Han Solo (G), just deploy Princess Leia (G).

Another way to really hurt your opponent (and protect Chancellor Finis Valorum (A)) is to deploy Padme Amidala (H) and make them pay more Force to damage Chancellor Finis Valorum (A). You can then triple protect Valorum by arming him with the new Diplomat's Blaster. There are so many new combos available to the Diplomat player, that I couldn't possibly cover them all in this article. But, if you control the Character arena with Chancellor Finis Valorum (A), then you can concentrate the rest of your build each turn to your strongest arena and win the game.

After playing the demo game and introducing it to RedneckJedi and Darthwalls, Team 'Dude Where's My Card' was created. He competed in three qualifiers, yet the closest he ever ranked was eighth. He is married, has a five year old son, is an architect, has been the Treasurer and Newsletter Editor for eight years for JediOKC (an Oklahoma City based Star Wars Fan Club), was the IDC Card Development Chairperson for Fall of the Republic and is now the IDC Public Affairs Chairperson through all five expansions. Despite all that, he still has time to introduce the game to new players…KEEP THE GAME ALIVE!
