Bounty Hunters Promo Pack - A First
By C.J. Williams

In the heyday of the Star Wars TCG under Wizards of the Coast, WOTC would put promotional cards inside magazines and even in DVD’s. They would even provide promo cards inside of their own expansions.

The Independent Development Committee would like to return to this tradition. However, we can’t exactly publish them in any way and put them in magazines and DVD’s, so we came up with a new solution of 3-card promo packs revisiting previous expansions. Below is the first such promo pack we are providing. We are also considering alternative ways to provide these promo packs to potential players of the game to try and promote the game to those from other TCG/CCG’s and other online gaming markets.

This special 3-card promo pack supplements the Legacy of the Force: Bounty Hunters expansion, which was before the Legacy of the Force: Mandalorians expansion, including its set icon. It contains two cards that were left out of the Bounty Hunters expansion, one of which was very conspicuous in its absence: Boba Fett, in that the expansion’s icon featured his helmet, but not Boba himself. The third card is a preview of our third neutral expansion in the Legacy of the Force series currently under construction.

You will note that these cards are identified with a rarity of P and a single digit collector number with no reference to the expansion’s number of cards to fulfill traditional promotional identifications. This is because they have a special rarity and are in addition to the number of cards in the expansion. So while the expansion has 75 cards listed in its complete number, it now officially has 78 cards. If further promos are provided for the Bounty Hunter expansion later, they will continue from P-4 on. Promos connected with other expansion will start at P-1.

In the LackeyCCG program, available from lackeyccg.com, we have provided this special rarity (“P”) to the pack definitions so that a random card from the rare, uncommon and common rarities may or may not be replaced in a pack. Their total availability comes in at about the same as rares within the expansion. So if ever you should have a draft tournament with friends using LackeyCCG, you may draw the special cards from an expansion as if they were rares.

Boba Fett (L) promo card, P-1, was designed as a beat-down card. When you spend 2 Force, you can get +3 power or Critical Hit 3, or spend 4 Force to get both until end of turn. This helps keep Boba Fett’s cost down. If Boba Fett already had 8 power and Critical Hit 3 along with his Armor, his cost would be less bearable. However, he is most affordable if you bring in Boba’s “H” version with Hidden Cost, using 5 build and 4 Force one turn and then stack it with the “L” version on the next turn so that you can use your refreshed 4 Force to activate his abilities. You should also try to use some cost reduction for both his build cost and his ability costs.

Hunting Party has a special ability that allows you to break the rules and attach Character or Space Equipment to it to get their effects. This uses the same language as Rogue Squadron (A) and (B) in the Battle of Hoth expansion, originally introduced in the Empire Strikes Back expansion, with the words“as if it were…” This gives Hunting Party the opportunity to Equip any Equipment card you choose, as long as the Equipment’s other requirements are fulfilled. Coupled with Critical Hit 1 and Armor, this makes Hunting Party a formidable card.

As mentioned earlier, Smuggler-for-Hire is a preview card for an upcoming expansion currently under development. We won’t give up the name of the set just yet, but you might guess its name easily enough anyway. Smuggler-for-Hire is a non-unique gem that can pilot Patrol Ships, Starfighters and Transports, granting them +1 power and a hefty defense. On a die roll of 4 or more, your opponent must pay 1 Force in order to attack any unit with this Pilot on it. That is quite significant. This can be a boon to both Pilot decks and Diplomat decks or any other Force denial deck, Light Side or Dark Side, proving these guys to be the mercenaries they are. These cunning Smugglers are sure to be staples in play for a long time to come.

Thus concludes our discussion of the IDC’s very first promo expansion. Stay tuned, because we have more to come.
