Neutron Star-Class Cruiser
By Brian Weeks

Friday, October 26th, 2007
This week, I thought I would focus on a cheap but effective Space unit that, at first glance, could be looked over by the average deckbuilder, the Neutron Star-Class Cruiser.

The Neutron Star-Class Cruiser is a deceptively versatile unit. For 3 Build, you get a unit that has 40 Speed, 6 Power and 6 Health. Pretty hardy for such a cheap unit. But it's disadvantage is that each time this unit is damaged, you must put 1 additional damage counter on it. So the primary strategy for this unit is to not be damaged. (duh..)

Because this is a Neutral unit, you have many different ways to complete this strategy. You can boost it's speed (by using a variety of cards: Anakin's Inspiration, Dark Speed, Pilot's Speed, Trade Federation Offensive, or Windu's Solution), you can remove the damage (Artoo's Repairs, Astromech Assistance) and you can move the damage (Imperial Misdirection).

In addtion to the above cards, the Neutron Star-Class Cruiser can also benefit from Jabba's Palace.

There are also several pilots that can benefit this unit because of it's Capital Ship sub-type, Anakin Skywalker (M), Captain Gilad Pallaeon (A), Rebel Lieutenant and Saesee Tinn (A), just to name a few.

There are so many more options available to this unit. How will you use it in your decks?

Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster (A)
By Brian Weeks

Friday, October 19th, 2007
After showcasing Han Solo (M) in last weeks Card of the Week, I thought I would focus on one of the cards mentioned in that COTW, Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster (A). The Han Solo/Princess Leia combo (and subsequent themed decks), would have to be one of my favorite Character unit synergies available in the game.

Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster (A), gives the equipped Character Accuracy 1. Not much of a bonus considering the cost (1 Build, 1 Build and 1 Force to Equip). That would be just for any Character. Where this equipment really shines is when it's attached to Han Solo. Then it would give Han "Bounty: Gain 1 build point." And when equipped to the right Han, this ability can really be an advantage.

When referring back to my comment about Han/Leia combos, my favorite one to employ is the Princess Leia (I)/Han Solo (I) combo. For ten build points, you get a Character combo that can truely deal some damage. With Princess Leia (I), Han's Upkeep is paid for. You can also tap Leia to gain either two build points or give Han (I) Accuracy 1. The later is the preferred strategy. Han (I) already has Accuracy 1, so by tapping Leia, he now has Accuracy 2. If you add Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster (A), Han (I) is now attacking with Accuracy 3 with the ability to untap after each attack!!! If he causes a unit to be discarded due to damage, you gain one build point. If your opponent is running a cheap swarm deck, this combo can be lethal for your opponent and an advantage for you.

But there's still two issues to address regarding Han, Speed and Power. To address this and pump up those stats, you should include other Han's in your deck for stacking under Han (I). I would definitely suggest the 5 Build units, Han Solo (L) and Han Solo (M). A fourth Han that would work great would be Han Solo (G) (especially if you're also running Princess Leia (G)).

The previous cards would then give you a four stack Han Solo (I) (costing a total of eight build (ten build counting the Equippment), with 80 Speed, 7 Power, 8 Health, Accuracy 3, Bounty: Gain 1 build point, and the ability to possibly untap after each attack. Devastating! So, check out this new Battle of Endor Equipment card, add it to your Han/Leia deck and see how much your opponent cringes.

Han Solo (M)

I feel that, over the course of deck building in a post Battle of Endor environment, there was really only one prevalent Light Side strategy: Yoda (J) and Hidden Cost units, most notably Luke Skywalker (S). However, I think that focus should be shifted off this strategy, because it is really a defensive strategy rather than an offensive strategy. One strategy that I'm fond of involves one of the most powerful Battle of Endor character units, Han Solo (M).

For five build points, you get Han Solo (M), a Light Side character with 40 speed, 5 health, 4 power, Accuracy 1, an Upkeep, and a choice between either Stealth or Lucky 2 until the end of the turn. The ability to give Han Stealth is what makes him one of my favorite units. Because Stealth is very rarely used in the Character arena, most players don't expect it coming, leaving their defenses wide open for attack.

Now for the numerous combos. Princess Leia (H) works amazingly well with Han. For starters, you can deploy Han for 1 less build point than you normally would. Secondly, once he's in play, you don't have to pay his Upkeep cost due to Princess Leia's presence. Lastly, Leia can't be attacked as long as Han is in the Character arena, and Han can't be attacked because he has Stealth, giving you a very good and cheap character strategy. Princess Leia (L) also works well with Han Solo (M). Another card that works well with Han Solo (M) is Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster (A). Not only does it give Han Solo (M) Accuracy 2, but also a Bounty to gain 1 Build point. Another option is Han's Strike Team (A). With Han Solo (M) out, Han's Strike Team (A) has Lucky 3 and Stealth, making it a very formidable Ground unit. Han Solo (M) does have a few enemies though. Darth Vader (S), Homing Missile, and Darth Sidious (E) are all problematic for this strategy, seeing as how they can damage Han Solo (M) without actually attacking him.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, as it would be. There are so many strategies that can be used with Han Solo (M) that it is conceivable to construct a deck around his raw power. I would recommend that every Light Side player consider using Han Solo (M) in the construction of their decks.

Boba Fett (B)
By Derrick Rabenold

In my recent games on LackeyCCG with my old playgroup, this boy (Boba Fett (B)) has seen a major resurgence, because of the creation of Luke Skywalker (S) in the IDC’s Battle of Endor expansion. Before the release of arguably the strongest version of ‘the Son of Skywalker’ so far, Boba Fett (H) had been an extremely popular since his emergence in the Return of the Jedi expansion.

The IDC has done it again! They have once more revived an older card. Since many Light Side decks have contained Boba Fett (H) (which easily contested the Dark Side players Boba Fett (B) off their Slave 1) but now no longer do because of the addition of Luke Skywalker (S) to the Meta-game, Boba Fett (B) immediately jumps back into contention for selection in your Dark Side decks.

Any Dark Side player would be well advised to combine Boba Fett (B) with the Slave 1 (G) for a cheap, but devastating combo. For a mere 8 build a DS player will have a slow Stealth unit that Light Side Starfighters, especially Luke's X-wing (E), will have a hard time hitting. This combo’s offensive power will wreck havoc on the character arena, especially against Ewok decks with low health units like the Wokling and Ewok Warrior.

Dark Side players should beware however because if you can use this combo, so too can the Light Side player reading this analysis. Perhaps it wouldn't be a good idea to take Boba Fett (H) out, unless Emperor Palpatine (D) is your favorite of the Dark Side characters. If so, then keeping the Emperor in the Character arena and Boba Fett in Space on Slave I would provide a great one-two punch.
