Keder the Black (A)

After a year of waiting, players of the Star Wars
Trading Card Game have finally been treated to the release of Invasion
of Naboo! The new set brings a plethora of strategic options,
and players will spend weeks analyzing the cards and updating decks
accordingly. Many of the cards focus on assisting one of five factions:
Diplomat, Gungan, Naboo, Sith, and Trade Federation. However, this
week we examine a true rogue, a shady character who can infiltrate
any deck - Keder the Black (A).
The 7 build Assassin card features a moderate combination of speed,
power, and health. Being an Assassin, Keder the Black (A)
can be pulled from the deck using Wretched
Hive; the ersatz Senate Guard can gain benefits from Nar
Shaddaa Moon or Gatling
Gauntlet. However, Keder the Black (A)'s biggest feature
is the ability that allows you to search your opponent's deck for
a Character; the assassin then gains the subtype and text of the
selected Character card! This could be a great counter to Darth
Vader (R), Luke
Skywalker (S), or Boba
Fett (H). The ability also works great with Take
a Prisoner. After triumphing in the Character arena using your
opponent's own card, you can then discard extra copies of that card
in your opponent's deck to ensure your lock on the Character arena!
One of the best features of Keder the Black (A) is the card's versatility.
Of course, the Assassin best works in a deck with a focus of the
seedy underworld of Star Wars. However, Keder the Black (A) isn't
limited to this type of deck. On the contrary, the ability - similar
to the Bounty of Lando Calrissian (J) - allows Keder the Black (A)
to find a place in any deck.
Keder the Black (A) is a solid addition to any deck. Whoever
is willing to pay the most credits will win the assassin's service,
and to the winner be the spoils.
Benefits of Leadership

We're almost there! Invasion
of Naboo is on schedule and set to be released on Saturday,
May 30th. Just one week away! So prepare yourself.
With the Gungan and Naboo subtypes receiving a boost
in the upcoming set, you want to know about what you can use to
make them more threatening. That is where Benefits of Leadership
can come in handy in Character and in Space. With a version of Panaka
in the Character arena, you can get a +2 power boost to all your
Naboo units there, including Panaka himself, the various Naboo soldier
units and especially those new Naboo Starfighters you're no doubt
dying to try out. Along with these, there's bound to be some Naboo
subtype help going on, such as Captain
Panaka (B). Panaka
(B) will give a real boost to your Naboo units with his granting
Fury 2 and Hidden Cost and Stealth units getting 2 more Fury. The
increase in power will help score that Fury which is a further increase
in power. So don't overlook the power boosts.
With up to 5 officers in Space, you can get a +10 power bonus to
each of your Space units there, as Benefits of Leadership
does not specify Space, Ground, Character, or unit. If you get help
from your Rebel friends, then you can get an even greater bonus
from this card and your brand new Naboo Starfighter fleet will pummel
your opponent with devastating effect. Of special interest with
a power boost is Bravo
One (A). With Ric
Olié (A) piloting and other Naboo officers in Space,
Bravo
One (A) will lead the pack in a blitzkrieg. Join us next week
as we discuss Gungans.
Anakin Skywalker (R)

The Invasion
of Naboo (ION) expansion promises to bring several innovations
to Equipment cards as the IDC's continued experimentation with
Equipment comes to a head. This week's spoiled card, They
Win This Round, has a nifty use with Anakin Skywalker (R)
from the previous expansion, Republic
at War (RAW).
RAW was a breakout set, in which the IDC smashed
through to a set that will be as ever-present in the SWTCG as
the very first expansion, Attack
of the Clones (AOTC). While ION is not as risky as RAW was,
ION still brings fresh meat to the table. Anakin Skywalker
(R) has two corruption counter-activated effects that he can
benefit from. The second one, melds nicely with They
Win This Round when he grabs a weapon from one of your opponent's
units, attacks, and then, with his high speed, you can play They
Win This Round and prevent 3 damage to him by removing the
same Equipment. If it was your opponent's Equipment, then your
opponent is out of luck trying to use mid-turn attaching techniques,
as it can't be attached to a unit until end of turn, so that the
Equipment is out of action. A neat little trick for an up and
coming Padawan.
Look for the ION set release on May 30th, 2009.
Emperor's Prize

The Invasion
of Naboo set promises to bring a lot more swarming opportunities
to the Dark Side player as seen by Trade
Federation Dropship, and the ideal card for swarm decks is
Emperor's Prize.
After you bring in your cheap units through such
cards as the Trade
Federation Dropship, you can use Emperor's Prize to
bring them back after they are discarded by damage equal to twice
their total health plus 1 or more. Your opponent will surely be
frustrated by this recursion in addition to the many ways to deploy
units cheaply. Use it with an eye toward such units as Separatist
Battle Droid, Battle
Droid Sniper Team, and the many new Trade Federation units
coming in the ION
expansion.
Kaadu Scout

This weeks Card Of The Week, Kaadu Scout,
is from The
Phantom Menace expansion and can take advantage of Boss
Nass (B)'s ability and benefit him in the process.
When The
Phantom Menace was released, there was initial excitement at
the possibilities of a Gungan deck. While there were a few good
Gungan decks, there weren't enought cards released to make them
tournament worthy. There have only been nine Gungan subtype cards
released in fourteen expansions. The IDC's next expansion, Invasion
of Naboo, plans to remedy that weakness.
At 3/50/2/3 and the ability text of "Tap
-> Choose one of your opponent's units in the Ground arena.
Each of your Ground units gets Accuracy 1 against that unit this
turn. Play only when this unit would attack.", Kaadu
Scout is able to take advantage of Boss
Nass (B)'s +1 Health ability and also gains his Intercept
ability. Kaadu Scout, when tapped, is also able to give
other Ground units Accuracy 1 when attacking the same target.
And, because Kaadu Scout is a Naboo Gungan
Creature, he can deploy for less build using Wampa
Cave, gain Stun and Retaliate from Captain
Panaka (A) and even get Evade from Swamps
of Naboo.
As you can see, Kaadu Scout has a lot of
versatility and with the new Gungan cards, soon to be revealed
and released, Gungan decks may just see a strong comeback.
