Alliance Assault Craft
By Brian Weeks

Friday, September 25th, 2009

With the release of the Battle of Hoth expansion, comes new cards to talk about. This week we'll discuss the Alliance Assault Craft.

At 4 Build, 60/3/2, this unit is good for fast attacks, but with 2 Health, it won't last too long. That's why you'll need to run some damage prevention cards (like High-Speed Dodge or Jedi Piloting). The new Battle of Hoth card, Rebel Camp can also help keep these units around.

To date, there has only been one Gunship pilot - Clone Trooper Pilot. Deploy him to the Alliance Assault Craft for 3 Build and you gain +1 Power and Armor.

And, to reduce the Build cost, deploy Mon Mothma (A) or Rebel Troop Cart.

Qui-Gon Jinn's Lightsaber (B)
By Brian Weeks

Friday, September 18th, 2009

In conjunction with this weeks article, Jonathan's Card Ratings #3 - Obi-Wan Kenobi - Part 2, we'll review a card important to an Obi-Wan Kenobi deck, Qui-Gon Jinn's Lightsaber (B).

Obi-Wan Kenobi decks have been around since the game's first expansion, Attack of the Clones. But earlier Obi-Wan's weren't up to the task of taking down a Tyranus or Vader deck and were therefore not seen very often since. But, since the inception of unique equipment in Scum and Villainy, Obi-Wan now has the chance to strike fear into your Dark side opponent's deck.

Qui-Gon Jinn's Lightsaber (B), for a cost of 2 Build and 2 Force to Equip, will gain +2 power against Dark Jedi or Sith and Fury 4. His named lightsaber, Obi-Wan's Lightsaber (A), is a good pick as well (with Parry 1 and Accuracy 1), but ends up costing 3 Build and 2 Force to build and Equip.

So, for the cost and the abilities given, Qui-Gon Jinn's Lightsaber (B) would be my pick.

TIE Bomber Pilot
By Brian Weeks

Friday, September 11th, 2009

This weeks Card of the Week, TIE Bomber Pilot, fits perfectly with the Battle of Hoth preview card, Death Squadron TIE Bomber.

This COTW will be pretty straight-forward. For 2 Build, you get a 20/2/2 pilot that it's starfighter +3 power to Bombard. Add this to Death Squadron TIE Bomber and now you have a unit with Bombard 5 and Double Strike from the Space arena and +6 Power/Double Strike from the Ground arena.

Suppressing Fire can add +4 power to your Bombard and the Executor Bridge will let you deploy the TIE Bomber Pilot for free. There's more combos out there, but I'll let you figure them out. ;) Till next time...

Price of Serenity
By Trent McCrow

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Over the last few weeks I have been looking at some Mission cards that are part of a really strong combo that has seen play recently and this weeks Card of the Week is the final card in this amazing combo; Price of Serentity.

So, to quickly overview the combo, when you play Communications Disruption and Guidance of the Chancellor (a cost of 3 build) your opponent must tap units equal to the number of card they have in their hand. Here is what Price of Serenity adds to this combo:

"Pay 2 Force --> Choose one of your opponent's tapped units and discard it. Your opponent may draw 2 cards. Play only if you have a Dark Jedi or Sith in any arena and only during your opponent's build step."

So, as you can see, when played in this combo, not only do you get to tap units equal to the number of cards in your opponent's hand but you also get to discard any of those tapped cards! For a combo cost of only 3 build and 2 Force!

This Neutral card does have a few limitations though. This card can only be played if you have a Dark Jedi or Sith in any arena. This shouldn't be a problem as both these subtypes see regular play in Dark Side decks. The other limitation is that you can only play this card during your opponent's build step. I however don't see this as a drawback as you can wait till the end of your opponent's build step and then you can play this card. This will give you the ability to discard any problem unit that is in the way of your strategy and you can play it after they have built their reinforcements!

This card not only works great in this combo but it is perfect for getting rid of your opponent's utility units and that is why Price of Serenity is our Card of the Week.
